![]() Spotify on the other hand I do have one minor quibble with. Tidal operates pretty seamlessly particularly from a Roon standpoint. Something that the Lumin's does not offer. I am finding I really like being able to look up from chair and see the cover art for the current song appearing on its display. It integrates seamlessly as a Roon endpoint if you don't want to use Lightning DS. In the end I went with the G1 as the Lightning DS App felt a little cleaner (personal opinion,) it offers Wifi connectivity and the ability to plug in a USB powered external CD Drive and Rip music from this. I was looking at both these same units in my move from a Mac mini that was serving up my digital content. The Auralic Aries G1 is a great little machine (although not as small as the Lumin). From what I can tell for MQA compatability you will need Roon unless using the USB input in which case you wont.I dont use USB audio input, so for my LAN set up i'll need Roon for full MQA playback. I have not dug deep into their architecture or their app but they seem well equipped for all that and there is a IOS and android app. I've also been looking at the Mini I Pro 3, it comes out in the next few weeks and for me looks to be a very appealing option at a very attractive price point too. Not sure what your price range is but look at the Element series, starting at lowest is the "I" model and moves upto the "X" series There is local retailers if you dont want to order via matrix direct or other online OS retailers. The models I have looked at appear to use ESS Sabre Pro chips. They seem to be very well regarded for their stand alone DACs and HP amps, and also now have some streamers in their stable that also have built in DACs with options of MQA and non MQA models. Lumin are very popular for good reason, couldn't be happier !Īs a side option, i've come accross Matrix Audio. Works with Android, but a few crashes/ drop outs on the phone so ipads and iPhones are better. and add to access from Lumin.Īfter a few days you'll get the hang of it! Minimserver was recommended as the best UPnP player program to run, and even a pretty average knowledge person like me managed to get it working.įor internet radio, (and Radio Paradise ) download Tunein Radio and you can add a few favorite stations, like RP main and Mellow mix etc. I find it imperative to plug your streamer directly from the router, and I ran Ethernet under the house to connect with my PCs but the Lumin streams no problems from files on my PC other side of the house.Īlso have a 2TB portable HD plugged in and works fine, uploads all the Metadata art and files very quickly! It is primarily a mini computer streamer, and I was a little intimidated initially- but thankfully many people on here very conversant with Lumin. I could not believe the lift in all aspects of reproduction. Only had my U1 Mini for a few weeks after updating from the Node 2i and massive improvement! The OS and ease of use and reliability is super important to me as is access to streaming radio such as Radio Paradise. Thinking of upgrading from current Node 2i to a more high end Streamer and have shortlisted the Lumin U1 Mini and Auralic G1, both similar price.įrom what I’ve read online, both are excellent streamers however the Auralic has the better power supply, and can connect over WiFi.
